Monsters, Inc. Comedy Club Set to Open at the Magic Kingdom

monsters-inc-coming-soon.jpgWalt Disney World plans to open the doors to the new Monsters, Inc. Comedy Club in the Magic Kingdom’s Tomorrowland in the spring of 2007.  The attraction will be located in the building which had previously been the home for Disney’s CircleVision movie, Timekeeper.

The premise of the Monsters, Inc. Comedy Club will feature Mike Wazowski as the Monster of Ceremonies and other characters from the Monsters Inc. movie (including Roz) in an interactive show.  The Laugh Floor from Monsters Inc. will be transformed into a comedy club, and Mike will bring two aspiring comedians on screen to entertain audiences in an improvisational show.  The comedy will actually be performed by comedians hiding backstage similar to the interactive style of Turtle Talk with Crush at the Living Seas Pavilion in Epcot.

As an added feature to the new attraction, Disney guests will be able to text message jokes to the comedy club cast members, and some of those jokes may be used in the improv show.  Since this is a real-time, interactive attraction, no two comedy shows will be the same.

It will be interesting to see if this attraction will be received as positively as Turtle Talk with Crush has been.  While the addition of an attraction with a Monsters Inc. theme is long overdue at Walt Disney World, the theme doesn’t seem to fit with the premise for Tomorrowland.  I’m not sure how monsters and comedy relate to space and the future, but if the attraction is enjoyable, guests will inevitably embrace it regardless of its questionable location.
