Chef Mickey’s Character Dining at Disney’s Contemporary Resort
My favorite Disney character dining experience is definitely Chef Mickey’s character breakfast at Walt Disney World’s Contemporary Resort. From the exciting atmosphere to the delicious food, if you’re looking to enjoy a character dining event during your Walt Disney World vacation, Chef Mickey’s is the place to be. Location: Chef Mickey’s is located on the fourth floor of Walt Disney World’s Contemporary Resort just three stops on the monorail from the Ticket and Transportation Center (or one stop after the Magic Kingdom). It’s a perfect place to enjoy a character breakfast before a day at the Magic Kingdom (or a character dinner after a day at the Magic Kingdom, but I’m partial to the breakfast).
Atmosphere: Chef Mickey’s is meant to be a celebration. From the moment you arrive, you’ll be swept up into the party. It’s loud, busy and fun. To give you a feel for the exciting atmosphere, every twenty minutes or so, a special celebration song comes on and everyone (guests, servers and characters) are expected to stop what they’re doing and join in the celebration by swinging their napkins over their heads. Kids can get up and dance or jump, and it’s perfectly okay. It’s a great way to get pumped up for a day at the parks. And of course, it’s always fun to watch the monorails pass through the center of the Contemporary Resort while you dine at Chef Mickeys.
Characters: Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Goofy, Pluto, Chip and Dale and sometimes Donald Duck will make the rounds from table to table to visit with everyone who dines at Chef Mickey’s. Each character is dressed in chef’s attire (Mickey is supposed to be the chef after all), and they spend time taking pictures and signing autographs as they make their way around the restaurant. As with all Disney character dining experiences, the characters follow a set path, so they are certain to get to every table (and they don’t deviate from that path).
Food: All I can say is yummy! The breakfast buffet at Chef Mickey’s is my favorite with everything from pancakes and bacon to cereal, fruits and everything in between. For children, Mickey Mouse-shaped waffles, hash brown patties and breakfast pizza (a cool take on peanut butter and jelly) are sure to offer something even the pickiest eater will enjoy.
All in all, I love Chef Mickey’s character breakfast. The price is reasonable for an all-you-can-eat buffet, but the pictures you’ll have the opportunity to snap with Mickey Mouse and his friends are priceless!

Chip and Dale haven’t been at Chef Mickey’s since before June 2007.
I waited the required 90 days prior to booking to make our Chef Mickey reservations. This dinner was supposed to be special as we were to celebrate my twins’ 7th birthday there. However, every reservation was taken within 2 days. I’ve continued to try to see if a cancellation occured but alas, there are none. There is no waiting list. I’m curious if anybody believes these reservations open up 2 weeks before hand or the week of? Or, do you have another idea? I’ve tried our concierge and everything goes through Disney Dining.

Chef Mickey’s is one of our favorite Disney Dining spots as well. I would continue to check, as something may open up, and frankly, what have you got to loose. I would also select a Plan B restaurant. If the twins are girls, dinner with the Princesses at Restaurant Akerhus in the Norway Pavilion at Epcot would be a good option. If you wish to stay at Magic Kingdom, we celebrated my child’s 7th birthday at The Crystal Palace.
But keep checking, as I have turned reservations in very late because of a conflict.
