Disney Hollywood Studios’ New Playhouse Disney Live on Stage – Review

Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World replaced the original Playhouse Disney Live on Stage show that starred characters from Bear in the Big Blue House, Stanley, Jo Jo’s Circus and Winnie the Pooh with a new cast that features characters from some of the most popular shows currently on the Disney Channel during Disney’s morning Playhouse Disney segment.

The new cast includes characters from the Mickey Mouse Club, the new Winnie the Pooh, the Little Einsteins and Handy Manny. I finally got a chance to take my 3-year old triplets to the new show last weekend, so following is my review and some pictures.

First, I should mention that if you’ve seen the previous version of Playhouse Disney Live on Stage, then you will recognize the format of the new version. Not much has changed except for the characters. A Disney cast member still leads the show interacting with puppets that represent each Disney character as they go through a series of “stories” to help a character understand something. In the previous version, Tutter from Bear in the Big Blue House had to learn how to get over being too shy to dance in front of anyone and this time, Goofy needs to find help to bake a cake for Minnie Mouse’s birthday party.

The new show opens with the Mickey Mouse Club House characters talking about Minnie Mouse’s surprise birthday party. They need to get the decorations ready, make up a song and bake a cake. Playhouse Disney Mickey Mouse Club

That leads into the first “story” with Winnie the Pooh, Tigger and friends. Paper leaves fall from the sky above the audience at one point during this story, which is fun for kids!

Next up are the Little Einsteins and Rocket.

Finally, we see a story featuring Handy Manny and his tools. This is the part where bubbles fall from the ceiling which kids in the audience love.

After the last story, the characters from the Mickey Mouse Club House make another appearance to surprise Minnie Mouse and start her birthday party.

I’m not sure why, but I liked the previous version of Playhouse Disney Live on Stage more than this new version. I think the old version seemed a bit more interactive. I might even go so far as to say I thought this version was a little boring. It’s still totally worth it to see Playhouse Disney Live on Stage if you have young children, but I miss Bear.
