Plans for a Second Disney Theme Park in Japan Come to Screeching Halt

tokyo disney castle Rumors have been spreading over the past year that Disney was planning to build an urban theme park in Japan.  This week, those rumors were put to a grinding halt when Tokyo Disney Resort’s operator, Oriental Land Co. Ltd., announced that the plans it had been working on for the past year with Disney would be canned.

At the end of the day, developers realized an urban Disney theme park in Japan would not deliver the return on investment required to make it worthwhile.

Looks like Tokyo Disney (which is very popular, much more so than Hong Kong Disneyland) will continue to be the place to go for a Disney fix in Asia.

Let’s make predictions – where will the next Disney theme park be?  Rumors have been spreading about China and Australia.  What about a South American location, like Brazil?  Leave a comment with your guess.

Brazil would probably be a great choice, but I’m voting for Africa or Australia.

As brazilian I would love to see a Disneyland in Brazil. I know California and Florida Disneyland and I am quite sure São Paulo or a close city would be the right place. The market is immense. But I bet the next Disneyland will be in Australia for cultural reasons.
