Walt Disney World’s Jungle Cruise Review

Walt Disney World’s Jungle Cruise Review

Earlier this week, I published a review of the Jungle Cruise at Walt Disney World in pictures.  Today, I’d like to follow up with a written review of the classic ride in Adventureland.
First, the Jungle Cruise is a family-friendly ride.  Your trip takes you on a slow moving boat ride through the rivers of three different continents.  Along the way, a Disney cast member will act as your guide pointing out animals, explorers, head hunters and more.  The guide will have you chuckling with many jokes and puns along the way.
You’ll begin seeing snakes and elephants from the African region …read more

While you wait for your boat to pick you up…

Space Mountain to Close for 18 Months

Space Mountain to Close for 18 Months

That’s the latest rumor coming from Jim Hill Media – Space Mountain will close in January 2009 for 18-months for a major overhaul.
If the rumor is true, Disney Imagineers have decided to revamp the ride to compete with Universal’s opening of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park at Islands of Adventure in late 2009 (or early 2010) as well as a new thrill ride currently being built at Sea World.
Let’s hope if this is true that Disney doesn’t ruin this classic and incredibly popular ride. Space Mountain might be simple in comparison to other thrill rides, but it’s …read more

Disney World Tests Nintendo DS in the Magic Kingdom

Disney World Tests Nintendo DS in the Magic Kingdom

Last week, Disney started a field test of its new Magic Connection system at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom. I’ve been looking for some more information about the tests, and today, Jim Hill Media posted a great explanation of how the tests work and what Disney’s plans are for the Magic Connection.
First, the tests are only happening at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom because of the high investment required to add the technology into the park that will link the Nintendo DS handhelds up to Disney’s system. The handhelds will ultimately be able to give guests real-time information about wait …read more

Radical Scripting Changes for the Haunted Mansion

Radical Scripting Changes for the Haunted Mansion

For 40 years, the servants of the Haunted Mansion have been welcoming guests in the same macabre way.  As guests enter the foyer and the portrait room, they’re typically greeted by one of those servants delivering a droll pun such as, “Drag your wretched bodies to the dead center of the room.”  Well, those days are over.

Disney World New Year’s 2008 Fireworks

Disney World New Year’s 2008 Fireworks

I’ve been searching YouTube since yesterday morning trying to find a good video of the New Year’s Eve fireworks at one of the Disney parks to share with The Disney Traveler readers, and I finally found a good one that was uploaded from a segment on CNN.  Next year, I’m just going to one of the parks myself and taking my own video, but this one by CNN is very good.
Check out the amazing fireworks at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom over Cinderella’s Castle to ring in 2008.  Happy New Year!

Katharine McPhee Performs at the Disney Christmas Parade

Katharine McPhee Performs at the Disney Christmas Parade

I’m not a big Katharine McPhee fan, but I have to hand it to her. She had a beautiful performance at the Walt Disney Christmas parade on Tuesday. In case you didn’t see it, here is her princess medley.

Holiday Lights Transform Cinderella’s Castle

Holiday Lights Transform Cinderella’s Castle

I tried to get a picture of the gorgeous new holiday lights on Cinderella’s Castle at the Magic Kingdom last week, but my camera didn’t do it justice.  I decided not to post them because I didn’t think you’d really be able to appreciate how beautiful Cinderella’s Castle really looks with the new lights that transform it to look like sparkling ice is hanging from all the turrets and eves.
The effect is unbelievably magical and I really wanted to share it with readers of The Disney Traveler, so I decided to cheat and post a picture from Walt Disney World’s professional …read more

The Disney Christmas Parade Airs Tomorrow

The Disney Christmas Parade Airs Tomorrow

Tomorrow is Christmas Day, which means the annual Christmas parade at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom will air on ABC at 10:00 a.m. (Eastern).  I love to watch the parade on television.  Last year, I was at the Magic Kingdom when the parade was being filmed.  It’s typically filmed a couple of weeks in advance, and it takes a full day to film it with the performers and floats stopping frequently for long stretches of time.  Frankly, it’s fairly boring to watch it in person.
