Disneyland to Open Innoventions Dream Home
In May, Disneyland will open its Innoventions Dream Home in partnership with Microsoft Corp., Hewlett-Packard Co., software maker LifeWare and homebuilder Taylor Morrison. The home will be 5,000 square feet and filled with cool digital, innovative features.
In the 1960s, a similar “House of the Future” was built in Disneyland (see the picture above). That house was made of plastic and looked very out of place. The 2008 version will be made with wood and other traditional materials on the outside. In fact, from the outside, it will look like any other tract home. It’s the inside that will be very different. With a $15 million price tag, it better be different on the inside.
To demonstrate the cool technology used throughout the home, Disney cast members will pose as a family preparing for a trip to China. The family of four will interact with each other using the technology throughout the home’s two bedrooms, living room, kitchen, dining room, study and backyard.
Some of the features of the 1960s version of Disney’s House of the Future included hands-free phones, wall-sized televisions and electric razors. Those items are commonplace today. It will be interesting (and fun) to see what gadgets and technology are included in the 2008 version of Disney’s Innoventions Dream Home.

But do they have the long-promised flying car in the garage? Smart homes have become fairly common, so I’ll be interested to see what the Imagineer take is on it.

Yes, smart homes are becoming more common - but I doubt the average visitor to Disney has ever seen one.
That said, Scott makes a very good point. Truth is, I can’t wait to see how they kick this up a notch is true Disney style.
