Disneyland Welcomes New Monorail

by Susan Gunelius on December 23rd, 2007

disneyland-new-monorail-mark-vi.jpgDisneyland will introduce its first new monorail since 1987 in January 2008.  The new monorail arrived in Anaheim, California this week.  The new Mark VII monorail model is super modern looking.  No word on what it looks like on the inside, but if the outside is any indication, it will be sleek.

The first monorail (Monorail Red) in the new fleet is red with blue windows.  According to Engadget, the special red paint used on the new monorail ”changes color in the sunlight.” Sounds cool.  Another new monorail is set to hit the track in the spring (Monorail Blue with purple glass) with a third joining the fleet in the summer (Monorail Orange with red glass).

Monorail Red is scheduled to start carrying passengers in February.  There’s been no word on whether new monorails will come to Walt Disney World, but since several were just renovated to remove the carpets and center bar area, it seems unlikely.

What do you think of the new monorail design for Disneyland?

That looks cool. I’ve been thinking about trying to get the DH to take us to Disneyland … you know, now that we’ve been to DisneyWorld. Kind of compare the two. I would hate to get there though and be disappointed because it’s not as cool.

I know exactly what you mean, Hil. No matter what, I’ll always be partial to Disney World. Heck, I moved to Florida for Disney World!
