Visit Disney When Crowds Are Lightest

The Walt Disney World website has a great interactive calendar feature that let’s visitors see when crowds are typically smallest at the Disney World theme parks. If you don’t like crowds, then you might want to plan your 2008 Disney vacation during the dates in yellow/orange in the calendars pictured after the jump.

From my own experience, I can say these calendars are fairly accurate.

Fewer Crowds and Cheaper Hotel Rates During the Wonderful Weeks of Disney

Walt Disney World’s Wonderful Weeks of Disney is a special marketing campaign targeted to visitors who prefer to visit during off-peak times and take advantage of special perks including:

Cheaper Rooms – During the Wonderful Weeks of Disney, guests can enjoy lower prices for hotel reservations (often the cheapest available all year) as well as increased room availability due to fewer bookings. Room rates during the week are often lower than on weekends.

Fewer Crowds – Guests can avoid long lines and crowded shows by visiting Walt Disney World during the Wonderful Weeks of Disney when fewer people stay in the hotels and visit the theme parks and water parks. It can be easier to book recreation activities and dining reservations as well during the off-peak Wonderful Weeks of Disney.

The Wonderful Weeks of Disney occur at various times throughout the year. Following are the dates of the Wonderful Weeks of Disney for the remainder of 2007:

May 27 – June 2

August 12 – October 6

October 21 – November 3

November 11 – November 17

December 9 – December 22

Of course, there are restrictions related to discounted reservations. A Disney travel agent can provide all necessary details.

How to Save on Disney Merchandise

It’s no secret that Disney makes a lot of money on merchandising movie characters and any other piece of Disney they can. I can’t even count the number of Disney pieces I own between my own collection and my children’s ever-growing piles of toys, stuffed animals, clothes, etc. After years of purchasing Disney memorabilia at the Disney Store and Disney theme parks, I finally learned a way to save money on authentic Disney items.

I came across this money saving method when I recently bought raincoats for my triplets at Disneyshopping.com. The coats were on sale for a great price. There is also an outlet section on the Disneyshopping.com site with fantastic deals, so I apprehensively checked the box that would allow Disney to send me promotional emails to see if they were worth inundating my inbox. Turns out they are more than worth it if you know you’ll be in the market to make more Disney merchandise purchases in the future. In the past week alone, I’ve received the following promotional announcements from different Disney emails:

Save 35% at our spring break event.
Free shipping on your order of $80 or more.
Save 25% on home décor and outdoor.
Buy 2 or more swim shop items and save 35%.
Save 20% at Disneyshopping.com.
Take an extra 10% off at the Disney Outlet.
Free shipping on swim shop items.
Easter collection up to 25% off.
Take up to 25% off Pooh Forever Friends collection for infants.
Take 20% off to celebrate spring.

Sure, my inbox gets cluttered with a message almost everyday, but these promotions are great. It’s important to keep in mind, the discounts offered in these promotional emails generally expire quickly after the email message is received, and the selection of stock available online is not extensive. However, the discounts are useful and may come in handy for anyone who loves to buy Disney merchandise.

Some of these discounts can also be found at online coupon and discount web sites like CouponCabin.com, but instead of searching out promotional codes, let Disney do the work by sending them directly to you. If you haven’t signed up for promotional emails from Disneyshopping.com, I highly recommend it as a great way to save money. You can always cancel your subscription to the email service if you don’t like it, so why not give it a try to see if the discounts work for you?

Eating at Walt Disney World and Spending Less Money – The Secret Discount Card for Florida Residents

While it is not truly a secret, the Disney Dining Experience membership card is not yet a well known discount program. With this special card, Florida residents can save a lot of money during their visits to Walt Disney World.

For just $85 per year ($25 more for a second card), a Disney Dining Club cardholder can save 20% at over 70 Walt Disney World theme park, hotel, Wide World of Sports and Downtown Disney/Pleasure Island restaurants for a party size up to ten guests. Large families or frequent visitors to Walt Disney World can reduce their dining expenses significantly with this discount card. Additionally, the Disney Dining Experience membership provides a discount on admission to Pleasure Island.

Not only can cardholders reduce meal costs, but they can also enjoy free valet parking at Walt Disney World hotels when they present their Disney Dining Card to the parking attendant. This is not an advertised benefit of the card, but I use this perk frequently (especially during the afternoon thunderstorms for which Florida is known). With the current cost of valet parking approximately $10 (with the tip), the savings add up quickly.
